SUNBURY, PA — United Plate Glass is celebrating 45 years in business and showing no signs of slowing down. The company continues to grow its team, expand services and increase its presence across the Mid-Atlantic — all while crediting its success to community, culture and collaboration.

Headquartered in Sunbury, with a dedicated fabrication plant in Shenandoah, UPG has steadily built a reputation for quality and professionalism — securing commercial projects in six states (PA, MD, NJ, NY, WV, VA) and earning the trust of homeowners across Central Pennsylvania.

UPG has worked with both local and nationally recognized brands, including Geisinger, Penn State University, Bucknell University, Susquehanna University, Millersville University, Amazon, Fresh Pet, Weis, Giant, Trader Joes, Mavis Tire and restaurant chains such as McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Arby’s, Taco Bell, Chipotle, Dairy Queen, Dunkin’ and Starbucks, plus more.

Long known for its commercial glazing expertise, United Plate Glass is gaining traction in the residential space as well. In the first half of 2025 alone, the company completed more than 200 custom shower projects, along with window installations and glass repairs for homeowners across Central Pennsylvania.

Their recently updated website highlights residential “home services,” aiming to help area residents find fast, professional and fairly priced solutions for their glass needs. Whether it’s a foggy window, a broken pane or a custom shower enclosure, UPG makes it easy to get the job done right and on time.

United Plate Glass was formerly a subsidiary of a national company specializing in commercial glazing. It was purchased in 1980 by Gene Zartman, founder of Zartman Construction in Northumberland, which once operated on the same site where UPG operates today. At the time, United Plate Glass operated next door to Zartman Construction.

As much as customers have supported UPG, the company believes in giving back. This year, UPG has supported youth, education and local sports through donations to the Shikellamy Football & Cheer Boosters, PTAs and trade schools such as SUN Area Technical Institute.

“We want to support our local community and create opportunities for the community as an employer,” said Nate Lawrence, President.

In just the past five years, UPG has increased its employee count by two-thirds and now employs 35 people.

“We have a great team,” Lawrence said. “I always refer to my coaching/sports background, as I truly believe organized team sports builds great character and teamwork. We have some of the best team members around.

He added a positive company culture leads to collaboration and success between employees and even customers.

“When we complete projects with our customers, we want to be a reliable and a strong resource,” Lawrence said. “We truly want every customer that we work with to feel like we’re part of their team and be a part of their success. We want to help solve problems and make every project the best possible.”

The main office of United Plate Glass is at 4762 Route 890 near Sunbury. Walk-ins are always welcome during regular business hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding select U.S. holidays.
